At Lucien Crochet the emphasis is on creating wines of finesse and complexity that are faithful to both terroir and vintage. Arguably his top single vineyard wine, le Cul de Beaujeu was raised in three 600-liter demi-muids of two, one, and no previous use. Pear, pink grapefruit, and orange offer effusively ripe scents and luscious saturation of an expansive, subtly oily and chalk-tinged palate. A hint of heat; exotic suggestion of botrytis spice; and piquancy of citrus rind don't prevent the finish from presenting a gusher of fruit.
