Brix & Mortar Wine Company was created in 2016 by Ben Hodson, who has been importing and distributing wine in Ontario for the past 15 years. Our goal is to find iconic and dynamic wines from around the world and bring them to you.
Our portfolio is comprised of family-owned wineries, many of which are multi-generational and are highly involved in organic, sustainable and biodynamic farming methods.
Ben Hodson, Owner:
Ben has been working directly in the wine industry since 2002, but his passion for wine started when he lived and worked in Vancouver in 1993. Working in a small lounge attached to a Gastown nightclub, Ben found a great interest in the wines of British Columbia, the Pacific Northwest and California. Upon moving to Toronto in 2001, Ben managed restaurants and worked as a sommelier until 2004, when he decided to leave the restaurant industry and focus solely on wine. He is a certified sommelier, and has a lifelong interest in learning all facets of wine. He is a major supporter of large format bottles, and holds what is starting to become a pretty great wine cellar.
Tom Kelly, Sales Manager:
Tom Kelly started in the hospitality industry at the ripe age of 13. Since then has held jobs from all ends of the restaurant spectrum including bus boy at a Chinese restaurant, barista, late night bartender and fine dining manager. His desire for more in the industry took him to earn a Bachelor of Commerce from Ryerson University receiving many scholarships and awards during that time.
Passions for new experiences in food and wine have taken him around the world, and he would rather consider working in wine an amazing learning experience and lifestyle than job. Apart from working, Tom can be found entertaining groups of friends, living an active life, taking a weekend journey to get away, and reading up on new wines, music, and design.
