Founded by José Antonio Lopez, Compania do Vinos Trico is one of the leaders in quality Albarino in Rias Baixas. José's goal is to preserve the minerality and freshness of the Albarino while showing the potential it has for ageing by holding back his wines years longer than almost anyone else in the region. The entire range is produced from estate vineyards on granitic soils, and vineyard and winery management are done organically to preserve the integrity of the Albarino.

• 92 POINTS, WINE ADVOCATE:
  The eponymous 2016 Tricó is a classic Albariño from 25- to 35-year-old vineyards on poor granite soils that give low yields. The full clusters are pressed, then the juice is let to settle before fermenting at low temperature with neutral yeasts. This stays at least one year in tank before it's bottled. These are serious and subtle wines, not exuberant or showy, with good ripeness and very high compensating acidity, but the wines don't feel acidic. This has the advantage of time and has developed further complexity and tertiary aromas, hints of straw, a touch of honey, more reminiscent of a river than the sea. The palate is round but vibrant, pungent and intense, with clean, focused flavors.
