Marcenca comes from a site in the famed single-vineyard Els Montalts. Fifty-year-old Garnatxa Negra vines stand here at an altitude of 800 metres. The soil up there is not slate, but red clay and chalky gypsum layers. Some of the vines from this distinctly different site also end up in the top wine Guix Vermell. It is a stony, impetuous and very unique expression of the grape variety and the region.
After the harvest, the whole grapes are fermented in cement tanks for six to eight days. It was then allowed to mature in cement for another six months. Marcenca undergoes the gentlest extraction of all the wines in the portfolio.
