Puro Rofe is a collaboration among local, like-minded grape growers Rafael (Chicho) Mota, Ascension Robayna, and Pedro Umpiérrez. They tend vineyards surrounding Los Volcanes in La Geria, Tinajo, Masdache, and Testeyna, and all practice organic farming. Puro Rofe is based in La Geria at Chicho Mota’s small, museum-like bodega, which preserves many traditional winemaking tools on Lanzarote – lagars, basket presses, and concrete vats which are now supplemented with clay amphorae as well.
Tilama comes from the vineyards of Ricardo and Olegario Cabrera located in the village of Tinajo and situated just a few kilometers from the Atlantic ocean. Made entirely from old vines of Malvasía volcánica grown in black volcanic sands over clay soils, Tilama made from whole clusters crushed by foot in stone lagars followed by fermentation and aging in French oak barrels.

PRESS: 94 POINTS, WINE ADVOCATE:
The 2019 Tilama is Malvasía Volcánica from the Tilama zone of the village of Tinajo in Lanzarote, and it has a saline quality as the vines are very close to the sea and the plants get sea breeze that brings salt. In 2019, the wine is 12.2% alcohol and has very high acidity, eight grams, with a very healthy pH of 3.1. The vines are centenary and are buried in holes in the volcanic ash to trap humidity and protect them from the wind and the soils amazingly enough, for such volcanic place that also has some limestone. The clusters were foot trodden in a traditional lagar pool and the wine matured in used 228- and 500-liter oak barrels for eight months. This is super clean, intense, sharp and crystalline, serious and intense.
