Two thousand fifteen was an early harvest at Larkmead, not only due to drought conditions throughout the year but also because it was one of the warmest summers in the Napa Valley in five years’ time. Under those conditions, they saw yields decline more than 10% across the estate vineyard. With a little extra headroom in Larkmead's stainless steel fermentation tanks, they used it as an opportunity to continue trials with co-fermentations.
In this vintage of our Cellar’s Proprietary Red, winemaker Dan Petroski decided to co-ferment one of the youngest parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon with their oldest parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon, planted in 1995.
