This wine comes from the Peugh Vineyard , which was planted in 1887. It's a field blen of co-fermented Grenache, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Carignan, Mourvedre, Negrette, Malvasia Nera, Barbera, a handful of unknown white vines (maybe Palomino or a mutation of Gewurtztraminer), as well as others that they don’t even know make up the blend of head-trained vines. This broad mixing of vines that was done for decades in early California wine grape plantings adds nuance and detail to the finished wine as well as a structural verve that balances the inherent texture and distinct depth of fruit flavors.
