Summer Red Box II

Our first red mixed box was so hot it sold out! Get ready for Summer Red Box II. Again, a little chill will show off the freshness of these wines.

Anthill Farms Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2017: With this Pinot, Anthill Farms looks to create a food-friendly, nuanced wine that represents the unique character of the Anderson Valley. Bright and approachable with light herbacious notes and earthiness, this is a benchmark example of the balance that young California winemakers are striving for, and achieving.

Vadio Tinto 2015: Vadio Tinto is made from 100% Baga (if you haven't heard of it, don't worry - most people haven't). aged for 24 months in a mixture of used French (90%) and American barriques. It comes in at 13% alcohol. The best baga-based wines, often but not always blended with other varieties, are redolent of berries and plums, with overtones of tobacco, herbs and dark-roast coffee. This is a fine version of high quality Baga, a bit understated but fresh, lively and smooth on the palate. The finish has spice and modest tannic pop.

Birichino Scylla 2018Sourced largely from acres of old vines hidden in plain sight along the backroads of Lodi --a short walk from Bechthold-- two old Carignane vineyards planted circa 1920 comprise the backbone of this wine, supplemented by our traditional sources of centenary Grenache and Mourvedre, bringing the average vine age to 99 years. As with all our red wines, fermentation was native with some quantity of stems; aging was in neutral barrel; and bottling was done without fining or filtration. All Scylla, no fylla.
